About CCS

Cosmopolitan Civil Societies (CCS) is an interdisciplinary research initiative at the University of Technology, Sydney that brings together scholars from a range of disciplines in the broad social sciences and humanities. It investigates from multi-disciplinary perspectives the practices that are crucial in enabling social cohesion and change in cosmopolitan societies. The Cosmopolitan Civil Societies research initiative draws on the expertise of the University’s teaching and research staff in the areas of: Management, Education, Communication, Cultural Studies, Social Change, Social Enquiry, Leisure, Sport & Tourism, International Studies, Urban Sociology, Sustainability, Community Studies, Finance & Economics, Built Environment, Engineering, Globalisation.

CCS contributes to the UTS Research Strength in Creative and Civil Societies.

A quick reminder that for those who took part in the CCS Conference on Social Impact and who expressed an interest in submitting a paper for the themed issue of Cosmopolitan Civil Societies Journal, the deadline for the full version of the paper is 28 February 2012. Everyone’s Story Counts – an overview of issues regarding measuring social impact in the community sector
This is a free event, lunch provided

CCS members and external practitioners are welcome to join us for this day of reflection and problem solving. The symposium will focus on the question of how to measure the social impact (as opposed to evaluation) of organisations and programs within the local community. The morning will consist of presentations and discussions of current approaches and issues. After lunch, a Roundtable discussion will attempt to develop some potential solutions and a future research agenda. Audience participation requested. Following the symposium, contributors will be invited to submit a paper to the CCS Journal special issue on Measuring Social Impact.
