CCS will co-host the 2010 Australia New Zealand Third Sector Research Conference at the University of Technology, Sydney on 15th and 16th November 2010.
The conference is titled “The Third Sector as Civil Society in Australasia: Identity, Role and Influence in the New Century”.
The ANZTSR biennial conference brings together hundreds of academics and practitioners to share their knowledge, experience and research in the third sector.
As we move into the next decade of a rapidly changing and challenging world, we need to constantly revisit our role for ANZTSR. This is a good opportunity, not only to continue our interest in third sector organizations and their governance, but to reassess the wider role of civil society in our region.

ANZTSR Biennial Research Conference November 2010
Extended Deadline for the Call for Abstracts
In response to many requests for an extension, the ANZTSR conference planning committee has extended the deadline for the call for abstracts until Monday 3rd May. In addition to researchers based in academia, we are keen to receive abstracts from practitioners and from researchers based in Third Sector organisations and indeed in public bodies.
Thanks to the generous support of the Centre for Social Impact and the Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies, we can announce that there will be special conference discount rates available for students and that there will be an award for best student paper (details to be announced).
Thank you to those who have already submitted abstracts. The Academic Review Committee will provide feedback by the 31st May and conference registrations will open in June. The Academic Review Committee will also provide a full paper peer review process and these papers will be made available through the conference proceedings after the event.
The conference will address current issues facing the Third Sector and also look to the future. The conference will open with a plenary titled ‘How can we build a cohesive and recognised civil society in Australia?’ with leading practitioners from various fields of Third Sector activity participating in a facilitated debate.
The conference will close with a panel of leading academic researchers who will lead a discussion of recent changes to the status of Third Sector research within Australasia and the strategic direction for third sector research beyond 2010.
The venue for the conference has been confirmed at UTS and we are working on an exciting program of social activities outside the conference program, including a reception on the Sunday afternoon at the Citigate Hotel, a dinner on the Monday evening at Red Chilli Restaurant in Chinatown.
For those of you who are anxious about accommodation options in central Sydney UTS provide a range of options on their website and Citigate Hotel (very close to the conference venue) will be providing double rooms at a discount rate of $147/night.
